The Atlantic Forest of Brazil is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and one of the world’s top biodiversity hotspots. The Serra do Brigadeiro mountains in the state of Minas Gerais are located one of the priority conservation areas in the state, home to many  endemic and endangered species of flora and fauna.

For over twenty years, the Iracambi NGO has been working with local communities  to protect and expand habitat adjoining the Serra do Brigadeiro State Park, identifying key areas which are in urgent need of protection and restoration. In 2021 one of these properties suddenly came on the market, and, thanks to the Quick Response Fund for Nature,  Iracambi  was able to acquire the land for conservation purposes before it could be developed.  The site is globally significant for its biodiversity and large mammals.

Thank you, QRFN!
